Digital art is having its most visible moment in history — and also facing some of its oldest questions about legitimacy, collectability, and long-term value. Digital artists in the Praxis community are navigating all of it: the hype cycles, the skepticism, the infrastructure questions, and the genuine opportunity.

What digital artists in the Praxis community are working on

The legitimacy question. The traditional art world is still sorting out how to think about digital work. Members of the community — including curators and gallerists from the Roundtable archive — have spoken honestly about how they approach digital practices and what convinces them to take a digital artist seriously.

Pricing files and editions. How do you price work that can be infinitely reproduced? The community has developed frameworks borrowed from photography’s edition model and applied them to digital contexts — including how to think about NFTs without being captured by the hype.

Display and exhibition. Getting digital work shown requires solving problems that physical work doesn’t have: hardware, display calibration, installation complexity. Members share the solutions they’ve found and the partners they’ve worked with.

Building a career before the technology settles. Digital art markets are volatile. Praxis members have developed strategies for building a career that doesn’t depend on any single platform or technology trend — prioritizing collector relationships, institutional support, and critical context over marketplace metrics.

The future belongs to artists who understand the business

Digital artists are often more technically sophisticated than their counterparts in other media — and sometimes less prepared for the non-technical side of a career. The Praxis community closes that gap.
