Membership & billing
How does pricing work? +
Praxis offers two membership tiers. Basic membership gives you access to the full course library and the Roundtable archive. VIP membership adds a live monthly Q&A with Brainard and a private community forum. Both are available as monthly or annual plans — the annual plan works out to roughly two months free.
What's the difference between Basic and VIP? +
Basic gets you everything in the library — all courses, all Roundtable recordings, all downloadable resources. VIP adds live access: a monthly evening with Brainard where members bring real questions about their practice, plus a private forum where Brainard and other members respond. VIP is for artists who want a working relationship, not just a library.
Can I cancel? Do you offer refunds? +
You can cancel at any time from your account settings — no email required, no friction. Monthly subscribers lose access at the end of the billing period. Annual subscribers can request a prorated refund within 30 days of renewal. We don't offer refunds for individual course purchases.
The classroom
How do I access courses after I sign up? +
After you complete checkout, you'll receive a confirmation email with login instructions. All courses live on the Praxis platform at praxiscenterforaestheticstudies.com — same login, same account, everything in one place. You can watch on any device; there's no app to download.
Is there a private community? Can I ask Brainard questions directly? +
VIP members have access to a private forum where Brainard responds personally — usually within a few days. Basic members can post to a shared community forum. If you want a direct line, VIP is the right tier. That said, the monthly live Q&As are recorded and added to the archive, so even if you can't attend live, nothing is lost.
The work itself
Who is this for? +
Praxis is for working artists at any stage who are serious about the career side of the practice — not just making the work, but getting it seen, writing about it clearly, navigating the market, and building something sustainable. If you're waiting for an MFA, an agent, or a New York zip code to do that work for you, this probably isn't the right fit. If you're done waiting, it is.
Will it work if I'm just starting out? +
Yes — if you're clear that you want a career, not just a practice. The courses cover fundamentals (artist statements, pricing, the grant landscape) as well as more advanced strategies. Many members found Praxis in their first year out of school and credit it with helping them avoid a decade of expensive trial and error.
What if I'm already mid-career? +
The Roundtable archive tends to be most valuable for mid-career artists — the conversations go deep on institutional relationships, market dynamics, and what it takes to sustain a career through different phases of the art world. If you've been making work for a decade and things feel stuck, the VIP tier gives you a direct channel to Brainard that many mid-career members find more useful than another residency application.
